Activated carbon, which is known as ‘charcoal’ in layman’s language is a proven skin detoxification that can be of extreme use in deep cleansingthe skin. Charcoal is derived from natural substances and do not harm the skin. It is a natural skin detox and a cleanser. Activated carbon is highly efficient in removing the dirt and impurities that get collected on the skin as a result of exposure to polluted environment. Activated carbon can be easily prepared by burning firewood or coconut shells. People in the countryside still use firewood for cooking and the charcoal that gets collected in their hearths as a result of exposing the firewood to fire is used to clean and whiten teeth. Activated charcoal can be used to deep cleanse facial skin at home by mixing finely powdered charcoal with the face wash. Take a half a spoon activated charcoal powder to your palm and squirt a few drops of face wash on to the charcoal powder. Rub both hands against each other to make a lather and gently massage the face with the ingredients. Make sure to use super fine charcoal powder to scrub or cleanse your face as that can be abrasive. This deep cleansing treatment can be done once a week.
The charcoal mask can be used for flushing out toxins and deep cleansing the skin. It produces no side effects when applied.
Activated carbon face mask can be made at home by combining finely powdered charcoal, rose water, lime juice and honey. Adding honey or jojoba oil can rectify it the drying effect of charcoal when applied on skin. Apply the activated carbon face mask on the face and leave for 10 minutes for the ingredients to work through. After 10 minutes, gently scrub the face to exfoliate and wash off with a mild face wash.
You can add ground sea salt or sugar granules to activated charcoal powder to make a scrub.
If applied on a porous skin, charcoal may not be easily gets removed after washing with water. You can use a mild face wash remove the small particles of charcoal remaining in the skin.
This face mask or the scrub can be used on face once a week.

If you add large granules of activated charcoal in the bath tub, that will complimentarily purify the water that you bathe by destroying bacteria and viruses. You can either use charcoal granules or powdered charcoal to bathe. However, after soaking yourself in the bath tub with charcoal powder you need to wash your body thoroughly to remove the remnants of the charcoal from your body with a mild organic body wash.

Finely powdered activated carbon can be used in eye makeup, albeit not water-proof like commercial products that are laden with chemicals that may be harmful to eyes. The natural toxin-free eye makeup has no detrimental effects to the eyes, but will make your eyes beautiful.You can make a non-toxic eyeliner by mixing a few drops of coconut oil or aloe vera gel with finely powdered activated charcoal. Homemade activated charcoal mascara can be made by mixing bee wax, coconut oil, aloe vera gel with activated charcoal to get dark, thick and long eye lashes without causing harm to your eyes.
Charcoal has been used by people to naturally clean and whiten teeth and to kill bacteria in the mouth. However, some people in the rural areas still use charcoal to clean their teeth and mouth which cause no deleterious effects to the environment or the body. Many toothpastes that are found in the market are full of chemicals that cause problems in teeth. In order to minimize the effect of chemicals, you can mix activated carbon with your regular toothpaste to brush your teeth to whiten and to remove stains in teeth naturally.
